The manufacturer's suggested retail price is a reference, not your final bill. Check the window sticker for the exact year, trim, options and destination charge; do not compare a base-model figure with a differently equipped car.
This is the dealer's listing price. Ask whether discounts require particular qualifications, a trade-in or dealer financing, and what charges are excluded. A rebate you cannot use is not part of your budget.
Ask for the purchase total with taxes and fees itemized, plus any selected add-ons. Compare it before a down payment or trade credit; then show those separately when comparing the amount you would finance.
